Stanley Street Building

The contemporary use of traditional materials already prevalent in the surrounding area, along with a design which coexists harmoniously with its environment, are key to transforming a dilapidated Stanley Street butchery into a commercial Richmond Hill building.

Although Richmond Hill is one of the most historic parts of Port Elizabeth and Stanley Street is one of the busiest streets in this fast-developing neighbourhood, this building has no historical or aesthetical value for the neighbourhood. However, only minimal changes will be made to affect a maximum impact in order for the building to house three shops.

The new design consists of two rectangular glass structures which will highlight the interiors of the shops while being sensitive to the surrounding shops, restaurants and other businesses in historical buildings. The structures are designed at different heights in order to tie in with the adjacent buildings. The project is currently underway.
